Former Liberian rebel generals who on Monday issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Montserrado District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah to arrest him have withdrawn their statement.
The ex-rebel generals earlier said that Representative Yekeh Kolubah was a member of their command and should, therefore, adhere to their demand, claimed that their statement was in good faith contrary to public perception.
Their apology followed an invitation extended to them by Montserrado County Attorney Edwin Martin to clarify their statement against the tough-talking Montserrado lawmaker, Yekeh Kolubah.
According to the disbanded military officers, Representative Kolubah statement last week the president George Weah has ‘three months to leave power’ was wrong and a threat to state and the government.
The ex-general spokesman General Augustine J. Nagbe alias ‘General Pa’ told Montserrado County attorney Cllr. Edwin Martin “We were just calling him to advise him to refrain from these kinds of statements that’s why we called him.”
“For our 72 hours ultimatum statement, if it does not go down well with the Liberian people, we are the former general we’ve been transformed now and doing our own businesses we say sorry to the Liberian people and we retract the statement and we don’t mean harm,” he adds.
In response, Cllr. Martin described the appearance of the ex-generals as an adherence to the rule of law and also wants Representative Yekeh Kolubah to do the same.
On Sunday April 14, Representative Yekeh Kolubah and supporters marched through the Tubman Boulevard to the headquarters of the Unity Party (UP) where he officially joined the four collaborating political parties.
According to Rep. Kolubah, the march, which was peaceful and guarded by scores of police officers, was intended for him to lend his support to the planned June 7 mass protest against ‘bad governance’ and also join the four collaborating parties.
Yekeh supporters resist ex-generals arrest threat
Representative Yekeh Kolubah supporters who gathered early Wednesday April 17 morning told LPR correspondent in the area that any attempt from the ex-generals to arrest their lawmaker will be met with strong resistance.
The lawmaker has been critical on the Weah led government for what he termed ‘bad governance’.
“We will remain here until we can see the so-called former generals”, said Sumo Kollie, a supporter of Representative Kolubah. According to Sumo, he and his colleagues have gone at the residence of Representative Kolubah to protect him against any unlawful arrest.
Representative Kolubah expulsion threat
In reaction to Representative Yekeh Kolubah comment against the president , Montserrado District#5 Representative Thomas warned if Rep. Kolubah does not desist from consistently and continuously bringing the House of Representatives into ‘disrepute’ with his ‘reckless and insulting comments’ he will either be suspended .
He cited Rule 40 of the House’s rule and Procedures which calls for suspension or expulsion of a member based on misconduct.
Rep. Fallah said majority members of the House, at least 49 members, in accordance to the House’s Rules and Procedures, will either suspend or expel Rep. Kolubah for what he [ Fallah ] termed ‘bad conduct and undesirable acts.’
