Nearly three weeks to the much publicized massive protest on June 7, 2019, popular Liberian talk show host Henry Costa on Thursday May 16, 2019 arrived in Monrovia from the United states of America receiving a gigantic crowd welcome.
Many of Costa’s supporters were seen holding placards with his photo chanting slogan such as “welcome our hero; we’re with you”.
Henry’s sympathizers were one of the biggest crowds since 2017 elections to be pulled by a single individual.
He has been critical on alleged shady deals of the government and this has won him more enemies in high places and earned him many admirers among the commonplace people, who have the power to vote.
The marchers printed postal sheets with inscriptions such as: “Henry Costa, Welcome Home Our Hero”; Welcome Home Our Hero, The True Son of The Soil”; Welcome Back Our Leader”.
He has accused the National Security Agency (NSA) of jamming his radio Roots FM 102.7 frequency because of his critical stance on the Weah led government.
Earlier at the airport, Liberia Public Radio correspondent quoted some supporters of Henry Costa as saying ‘we are here to welcome Costa’ to Liberia.
“We will join Costa on June 7 for the protest, so we’re here to support him”, Korpu Sumo, a resident of Matadi told our correspondent.
The popular talk show host is one of the planners of the June 7 protest which the organizers say will be a ‘peaceful protest’.
Responding to his supporters in central Monrovia, tough talking Costa said the massive reception he received was a prelude to the massive June 7 protest.
He asserted:” It was a warm-up, prelude, if you will. We are going forward, mobilization and mobilization; we will be going to the communities to talk to our people”.
Mr. Costa in an interview also added he was “I am deeply touched and humbled by the mammoth show of love and support today. History is in the making.”
Deadlock
On Tuesday May 14, 2019 the Council of Patriots the name under which the protest is being organized failed to submit their plights in a meeting with President George Weah.
They told President Weah that their plights will be presented on June 7 during the planned mass protest co-named “Save the State” instead of compromise.
The meeting which was attended by several stakeholders including the representatives of the United Nations and African Union as well as traditional leaders of Liberia was aimed at resolving on the June 7 protest planners to cancel their plan.
Political commentators in Monrovia say with the giant-size crowd pulled by Henry Costa on Thursday he is now considered the new ‘country giant’ in Liberia.
