A student organization under the banner Union of University and College Student Association ( UNUSCA) healing from Nimba has written a communication to its County legislative Caucus raising concern over the delay payment of the County Social Development Fund by central government.
UNUSCA serves as the head and steer the affairs of all Nimba University, College and Vocational institutions across the country by speaking in their behalf.
The Student organization was established to seek the welfare of students hailing from the county by lobbying for scholarship to ensure that all Nimba students receive higher education and also speak about ills affecting the county.
According to a communication sent to the county legislative caucus a copy in passion of this Liberia Public Radio, the student organization is frustrated about the way the county has been treated by the led George M. Weah administration.
The Nimba student communication outlined several issues ranging from low representation of its citizens in government, the lack of funding for students to receive financial aid to continue their education were majority of them past grade sheets has been held by school authorities for their failure to pay fees owned by the county among others.
UNUSCA further stated that Nimba’s share from its many contributions to national budget is an earned blessing that must not be squandered by any government, but instead, in this government, it seemingly becoming a curse or an embarrassment to Nimba progress.
The communication maintained that since 2017, Nimba is yet to receive its Social Development Fund from National government.
UNUSCA claimed that since October 2018 County Council sitting in Sanniquellie, nothing has been done to address some of the issue documented for development due to the government failure to give the county money.
Money for other projects but not Nimba
The group maintained “In the midst of our issues being put on the back burner, 1,050,000.00 was used to reroof houses in Gibraltar, while 250 housing units are being built in President Weah’s home town of Sass Town”, it said.
“No money for Nimba County and people but the Government of Liberia and the President have 150.000.00 for Du-port Road community newly constructed market building, Doe Community and few other communities that are dear to the president are boasting of new roads, while we are yet to receive our annual 1.5 million”.
UNUSCA calls on her county legislative caucus to prioritize the county interest by prevailing on the government to provide it’s funding for students to be able to go back to schools, for hospitals and clinic to receive drugs and fuels to operate functionally to safe lives.
The organization asserted that it believe that the appeal by government that there is money to pay their SDF is unacceptable, offensive, and a mockery to the county and is only intended to humiliate its progressiveness in terms of development.
