Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) has purchased Ambassador Football Academy, which will be funded into the BYC Football Program.
According to a communication on its official social media page, the club said it believe the future of Liberian Football lies in developing today’s junior players whom may take Liberian football to the next level.
The club said that they have designated the team to be called BYC-A: The “A” will stand for Academy.
The BYC family have agreed terms with Papie Jones, the former owner of Ambassador to be the Director of BYC-A and join the BYC Football Board of Directors.
“We estimate that BYC-A comprising of between 25-30 players, ranging in age from 7yrs-17yrs, the older players many of whom currently complete in the LFA’s Third Division, will be the team we will field and one which will participate in the 3rd Division of the upcoming 2019/2020 LFA Season.”
BYC Football has an outstanding agreement with the LFA that it’s 2nd Division team (BYC-II) cannot be promoted to the LFA’s First Division; though they have all RIGHTS to win the 2nd division championship.
This non-promotional clause remained in effect for past 2019 season, though it will be requested to be removed after the 2019/2020 season and be eligible for promotion the season after or in 2020/2021.
The Barrack Club said it strongly feels the majority of BYC-II players whom have now been together for the past 2 years are poised within the next 2 years to be the LFA First Division Champions.
To accomplish all the above, BYC said it will not field a team in the 1st Division for this upcoming season.
The Go blue club said those resources will be spread amongst purchasing of Ambassador Football Academy, and all the support that’s going to be required for BYC-II and BYC-A.
All local contractual players of BYC-I will be paid in FULL as stipulated by each individual contract terms.
Players whom are not under or have contracts or ones which have expired will be given Letter of release to play with any club of their choosing locally or internationally.
“Our international contractual players will be managed with those foreign based clubs on a case by case basis.”
The current BYC-I technical staff remains at BYC Football between BYC-II and BYC-A while Mouctar Fonana remains the head coach of BYC-II.
“BYC has always set a very high bar of the “terms” success or accomplish. We have had good successes and the senior team program very accomplished but not enough for our level of expectation or commitment to the performance we desire”, the statement added
BYC eyes CAF championship
The Club further explained that it is time they reset, dig deeper, start earlier, to accomplish their goal of getting to the Group Stage of the CAF competition.
“We have come close, getting the Round of 32 in 2013/14; the only Liberian team do so such but close is not good enough of us”, it further stated.
They also claimed that for them to get over this high bar, they’ve realized that they have to start younger player with their entry into Youth Football.
“We want to develop a team, starting with the younger players, keeping
them together, for the next 3-4 year, and beyond, whom will be able to compete with other countries all in Africa whom have strong youth/acadmey programs.
The club believes that Football is a journey. “We begin a new journey to the goal of a higher level. We are excited and confident our entry into youth football will take BYC and Liberian Football to the next level.”
