Preliminary results coming in from the Montserrado senatorial and Representative bye elections have put opposition candidates Abraham Darius Dillon of the Liberty Party and Telia Urey of the All Liberian Party in the lead.

The Montserrado County bye-election was created as a result of the death of former senator Geroline Doe Shireff who die from cancer and Representative Adolf Lawrence who met his untimely death through a car accident after his birthday celebration at the Robert’s International highway.

Dillon, the vice chair for legal affairs of the opposition Liberty Party was the choice of the four collaborating parties for the senatorial seat in Montserrado County, while Telia Urey the daughter of businessman turned politician Benon Urey of ALP was prefer for the Representative seat of District 15.

There was a reported low turnout from the morning hours due to a heavy downpour of rain.

Reports from various polling stations across the county show a wide margin  between the two candidates of the opposition parties and the candidates of the ruling establishment.

Meanwhile, official counting of  results has commenced  by the National Elections Commission in Monrovia.

Provisional results from the elections according to NEC chairman Cllr. Jerome Kokoya will begin on Wednesday July 31 at the commission’s headquarters.
