Liberian students take to streets in Morocco in demand of per diems and fees

Several Liberian students on government scholarship in the kingdom of Morocco are staging protest in demand of their fees and other benefits by the Liberian government.

 

According to Liberia Public Radio source in Rabat, over 80 students who are on the Liberian government scholarship risk being thrown out of classes due to delay by government to settle their fees.  The protesting students said in addition to their fees and tuition settlement, landlords have threatened them to exit their apartments due to their failure to pay rent on time.

It can be recalled that early July, Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah promised to settle the students per diems and fees after the issue was brought to the media attention but since the pronouncement by Minister Tweah the students are yet to get a penny, our source said.

The students are also demanding their monthly arrears

Liberia Public Radio also contacted the senate committee on education  early last week but the committee promised to look into the students’ plight after the July 26 Independence Day break.
