President Weah condemns increasing Violence in Liberia.

As Liberians continue to cry from increasing violence in recent days in the country most especially in the Capital, President George Weah has addressed the nation condemning violence in the country.

Speaking on the states Radio LBS through a recorded broadcast Friday morning, the Liberian leader recalled that a number of incidents leading to unruly behavior and electoral violence especially in Montserrado County District # 15 is alarming, worrisome and unacceptable coming from the supporters of the two leading candidates in the District.

The Liberian leader disclosed that his government has zero tolerance on electoral violence and those who will resolve to such level for political gain. He explained that elections are democratic process of any nation, as such, there is no greater rights than a right of a citizen electing his or her democratic representation, therefore no need for any citizen to be intimidated, harassed and molested in exercising such political rights.

It can be recalled that following the June 29, 2019 Montserrado District # 15 bye-election, there has been a series of electoral violence leading to the injury of citizens, damage of proprieties and an official vehicle of one of the leading candidates Telia Urey of ALP and also candidate of the four collaborating political parties.

President Weah further committed his government support to ensuring that law and order prevail as every citizen’s right is protected to execute their democratic right given by the constitution.

He cautioned political leaders and actors to note that they have the greater responsibility to admonished their supporters and partisans to behave orderly and refrain from acts that are outside of the confines of the law of the country.

President Weah at the same time mentioned that political leaders will be held accountable for disrupting behavior, regardless of their political affiliation, as electoral violence in any form will not be accepted and any individual who will be caught in inciting and supporting electoral violence will face the full weight of the law.   

The Liberian leader called on the National Elections Commission the body that is cloth with the authority to conduct elections in the country to carry out a free, fair, and transparent election in an orderly manner that will represent the true will of the electorates.

The former soccer star now president of Liberia admonished  electorates to go out peacefully in a normal way to vote candidates of their choice.
