The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works says plans are underway for the construction of two (2) interchange overhead bridges to be built in the Congo Town belt.

A release quoted the Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan as disclosing that   the two interchange overhead bridges will be shortly constructed at two locations at the newly constructed Ministerial Complex along the Tubman Boulevard and the SKD Boulevard-Ministry of Health Intersection in Congo Town.

Minister Nyenpan pointed out that the construction of the overhead bridges followed productive bilateral and technical cooperation agreement with the People’s Republic of China that has committed itself to funding the project.

Minister Nyenpan told reporter that the move is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with the Asian Nation, noting that infrastructural development is an integral tool toward national growth and development.

He furthered: “The Government of Liberia under the watchful eyes of President Weah’s is resilient and committed in fostering infrastructural development amid daunting and inhibiting challenges”.

For his part, the Technical Assistant to the Minister Sundiata Juasema asserted that the construction of the overpass (overhead bridge) will follow what he termed as Chinese Class I highway standard with a design speed of 60km/h on the Tubman Boulevard and 30-40km/h on the ramps.

” Auxiliary roads and pedestrians walkways will also follow Chinese Urban Road standard, with Liberian technical standards and local practices to be used as references” Sundiata revealed while dissecting the Implementation Contents and Technical Indexes of the project.

He also put the width of the Viaduct at 18m with four (4) lanes.

Tubman Boulevard is one of the major trunk roads in the national highway network with dual, 2-lane carriageways, 16.5m in width of the pavement and without median divider currently.

The construction of the two interchange overhead bridges accompanies the dedication of the newly constructed Ministerial Complex which is expected to host five (5) ministries and an agency including the Ministry of Education, Commerce and Industry, the Civil Service Agency (CSA), amongst others.

Analysts say the construction of the interchange overhead bridges will not only add to the visual vista of the Tubman Boulevard, but will  further ease traffic congestion in those areas.
