Weeks after declaring his assets, Montserrado County Senator Darius Dillon finally announced his monthly earnings as a sitting senator.
At a news conference Tuesday at his Capitol Hill office in Monrovia, Senator Dillon disclosed that his monthly salary inclusive of benefits is US$15,325, while his Liberian dollars basic salary stands at LRD$29,700.00.
According to the Montserrado lawmaker, he is entitled to US$2,150.00 on a monthly basis.
Reading from a manuscript, the Montserrado County Senator explained that he was presented his full packaged containing his salary and benefits by the Chairman of the Senate committee on Ways, Means and Finance, Bomi County Senator Morris Saytumah.
meanwhile, Dillon has branded those asking him to return or sell his newly assigned vehicle as bad advisors.
Senator Dillon’s comment is in reaction to argument in the public surrounding the high cost of his vehicle which has bagged criticisms from both supporters and opposition across Liberia.
The Senator said he will not return the vehicle to government, while disclosing that the car is not an impediment to his 2020 senatorial bid.
The Montserrado County Senator who was elected on the ideal of setting himself apart from the old order added that his action to accept the car is in keeping with the law.
Senator Dillon further clarified that the price of the car is US$40,000 contrary to speculations in the public that the cost of the car is over eighty nine thousand United States dollars.
Dillon is the first Liberian lawmaker to declare his actual monthly salary and benefits in recent time.
