Chief Justice Francis Kokpor has assured the Judiciary unwavering commitment to ensure fair and impartial justice for all Liberians and their foreign counterparts.
Chief Justice Kokpor noted that the judiciary is the strongest pillar of Government in which the tents of democracy are anchored.
He said there can be no guarantee for individual freedom and protection against gross violation of the law in the absence of the Court.
Chief Justice Kokpor, however, urged Liberians and other residents like to avoid violence and seek redress through the judicial system.
He speaking Monday October 14, 2019 at program marking the opening of the October term of Court at the Temple of Justice, the Chief Justice further called on Liberians to promote peace.
The Liberian Chief Justice also insisted that judges must be given attractive salary and allowances to avoid ‘temptation’ during the performance of their duties.
Chief Justice Kokpor said judges hold exhausted positions which prevent them from engaging into any business pursuit to enable them repair any temptation.
He argued that judges must be encouraged and given adequate incentives to live decent lives.
Chief Justice Kokpor’s statement is in reaction to the government’s ongoing salary harmonization program.
He, however, advised that the salary harmonization process be done in line with law especially when apply to the Judiciary to ensure justice and equity.
Judge bans from practicing
Chief Justice Kokpor disclosed that Commercial Court Judge Cllr. Richard Clarke has been ban to work in the Judiciary for bribery and double-standard.
The ban Judge was booked and found guilty of receiving bride from Party Litigants promising each of them of his commitment to rule in their favor.
He later ruled in favor of the party Litigants that pay the high amount in bride triggering complain from the other one to the full Bench of the Supreme Court.
This prompted an investigation that led to the banning of Judge Clarke from all legal activities in Liberia.
