Nimba Community College gets big boast, receives huge donation

Education is the bed rock for any nation more especially its young generation. 

In encouraging young people to get in the sciences and engineering field to help breage the gap, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Alexandra Benedict Cummings over the weekend donated US $ 25,000.00/ LRD 5.3 million to the Nimba County Community college. 

The donation was meant to help with the construction of additional classrooms of the Engineering School of the Nimba County Community College.

Nimba County Community college was established in 2010 during the regime of former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as a means of decentralizing education. 

Since its establishment, the county highest government institutions of learning has graduated over 2, 000 students from four graduation from various disciplines raging from Nursing, Agriculture, Geology and Mining, Forestry, Secondary education among others. 

 Making the donation during his visit at the NCCC Campus, Mr. Cummings emphasized the need to invest in the sciences, especially mathematics and engineering in order to develop Liberia. 

Quoting Mr. Cummings Albert Einstein as said “we cannot keep doing the same things but expect different results”. 

He said as such, given the current reality of technology there is a need  to focus on Science, Maths and Engineering to develop Liberia.

 In furtherance , the ANC Political Leader said ” he was contributing the LRD $5.3 Million to support the NCCC construct additional classes and a modern building to enable accommodate students, adding that he will continue to support education in Nimba and Liberia at large.”

The ANC’S Political Leader further noted that it was through the effort of Nimba County District # 8 lawmaker Larry P. Younquoi, the Chairman of the ANC’s  Legislative Caucus and a son also proposed Senatorial candidate of Nimba Taa Wongbe who were both influential in encouraging him to make the donation. 

Mr. Cummings then challenged the President of NCCC and the Dean of Students to use the students to design the classrooms in order to leverage the skills of the young people of the institution and promised to continue to support the institution. 

The NCCC Faculty Association in response thanked the ANC Political Leader for his gesture to the college and the people of Nimba and expressed how pleased they were for Mr. Cummings investing in the sciences, given that emphasis is continuously placed on political science at various institutions of learning including the University of Liberia. 

For his part, the President of the Nimba County Community College Dr. Edward Lama Wonkeryor thanked the ANC’S Political Leader for his contribution which he said  was not a surprise because  Mr. Cummings continues to prove his commitment to supporting education in Liberia. 

He referenced Mr. Cummings’ contributions to the AMEU Graduate School, BWI, the University of Liberia and Tubman University among others. He then assured Mr. Cummings that the funds will be used for its intended purpose.
