Aggrieved and illegal dismissed workers of Arcelor Mittal Liberia have again block the company’s railway  demanding the management to settle their benefits.

This is the second action by the dismissed workers  in less than two months.

The ‘illegal’, ‘dismissed’, and redundant workers took to the rail way on December 1, 2019 by 10:00PM in demand of their just benefits after the management of Arcelor Mittal Liberia failed to address their plights

The workers explaining through their acting Chairman Emmanuel Weah told our reporter in Sanniquellie, that the company has violated all their rights, including the labor law of the country. 

Weah stated that they have been patient over the years and have proceeded through constitutional means but no avail.

He revealed that the over 800 illegal, dismissed and redundant workers have all legal documents in their possession to their claim. 

It can be recalled that Arcelor Mittal Liberia redundant some of her  workers after  iron ore price drop on world market in 2016. 

Weah indicated  that some of them spend over 8 years working for the company in top level positions before their redundancy. 

“The company told us that they were to call us back to work when things get better, but since then, things have improved and all our positions have been occupied and we have not been call back to job nor giving our just benefits.” 

“We have been very peaceful and will remain peaceful. There is no language Arcelor Mittal can listen to unless protest”. 

He mentioned that they will not listen to any black manager of AML and will only leave the rail way until they receive them pays on the track. 

The acting workers chairman explained that their representative’s head including the proper chairman were in Monrovia to have a round table discussion with the Minister of Labor, something he said was the 2nd or 3rd time since they started with the advocacy. 

He mentioned that the county administration have fail on two separate occasions to mediate between the aggrieved workers on grounds that Mittal has  company has not shown up or shown interest in any other thing.
