Liberia: Government breaks ground for Sehyikimpa Logatuo Road pavement

The government of Liberia on Thursday December 19 breaks ground for the pavement of the Sehyikimpa Logatuo Road. 

The project which is titled ” Mano River Union Road Development Facilitation programme phase II will pave a 20KM of road from Fish Town to Kelipo River Gee County, while the Sehyikimpa Logatuo Road is 47.1 KM. 

Countries expected to benefits from such project are Liberia and Cote d’Ivoire and is a continuation of the African Development Bank’s support to the regional integration of the Mano River Union members state (Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Guinea) and in support of Liberian government’s  Pro Poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity (PAPD).

The project will be executed from January 2020 to December 2022 for an estimated cost of 37 million plus.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony in Sehyikimpa, Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpa, said the project was President George Weah commitment to his people ensuring that all capitals across the country is connected with paved road before his 6 years tenure  is completed.  

Minister Nyenpa further disclosed that Nimba is one of the counties benefiting from such committed by President George Manneh Weah.

He mentioned that the Ganta to Tappita road will commence early next year, while road works will continue across the country on other feeder roads.

For his part, Finance and Development planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah revealed that the Weah lead administration is working with her international partners to ensure that more of these projects can take place in the country to enable famers to freely transport their farm produce to the market easily. 

Tweah mentioned that when the country is connected with pave road, it will help boost the country economic and help stabilize some economic activities and increase productivity. 

For her part, Liberia Vice president Chief Dr Jowel Howard Taylor cautioned the local citizens to collaborate with the contractor for a smooth working relationship in the implementation of the project. 

Vice president Howard Taylor cautioned the contractors to recruit and train more citizens from the project area to capacitate them for maintenance purpose, adding that when there is no maintenance plan, the project will be a waste and the people could experience difficult situation than what it is now. 

Few months ago, the China Railway seventh group a construction company who won the bid to construct the road project held an acquaintance meeting with the local county administration informing them on how the implementation of the project would be.
