Liberia Public Radio source in Free Town has been reliably informed that Mr. Henry Costa, chairman of the Council of Patriots (COP) has been arrested in Freetwon, Sierra Leone.
Reasons surrounding how he was arrested remain unclear, but Costa has been undergoing immigration interrogations in Monrovia for fake traveling document.
Our source added that he would be extradited to Liberia on Wednesday January 15,2010 via the Roberts International Airport onboard a chartered flight.
A source within Sierra Leone authorities told local media in Monrovia that Costa is being held on request by Liberian president George Weah who has opted for him to be returned to Liberia.
He is being held under protective custody, a our source added.
Meanwhile report says Mr. Costa lawyers in Sierra Leone are trying to block his return because they are not convinced he would face a fair in Liberia.
The Liberia immigration Service is expected to declare Costa a wanted for forging traveling documents, a claim he has since denied.
Mr. Costa has accused the Weah administration of ‘gross incompetence’ and wants a change of leadership.
Costa has led two public protests in recent time against the Weah government claiming “corruption and the lack of good governance”.
