Weeks following his dismissal by president George Weah, the outgoing superintendent David Dorr Cooper has accepted the petitions to contest in Nimba county.
After several petitions and calls to him while serving as County superintendent to throw his weight in the senatorial elections in Nimba, David Dorr Cooper over the weekend finally accepted to contest for the county highest seat in the house of elder.
Accepting the many petitions presented to him over the years in Garnwee Town Yarwin Mehnsonnoh Statutory District in Nimba County, the outgoing superintendent described the calls as wealthy and in line with the constitution of the Republic of Liberia.
David Dorr Cooper came to government firstly as City Mayor of Gompa city, later was elevated to the position as Assistant Superintendent for Development of Nimba County and served as Superintendent proper on separated occasions under the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf last regime and during the George Weah regime.
Speaking to cross section of citizens, Mr. Cooper revealed that the signal from across the county asking him to contest is a positive one, adding that he is fully prepared to participate in the October special senatorial elections in Nimba.
Former superintendent Cooper called on the petitioners to remain committed in their quest to see him as the next Senator of the county noting that he remains a formidable force in the 2020 election.
For their part, the elders of Yarwin Mehnsonnoh Statutory District have lauded citizens from across the county for partitioning their son and also endorsed the senatorial bid of the Nimba former Assistant Superintendent for Development.
Speaking further, the elders said that they were endorsing Mr. Copper based on his many contributions to the county and it was prudent to rally support around him.
Meanwhile, the youths of Mehsonnoh Statutory District have corroborated with their elders and vowed to support Dorr Cooper in the October special senatorial elections.
Edith -Gongloe Weh lift in limbo?
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Andrew Lamie distanced the youth from recent reports that they have pledged support to Madam Edith-Gongloe Wehy a former Superintendent of Nimba and a daughter of the district.
Lamie maintained that the youths in Mehnsonnoh have agreed to support Mr. Cooper, noting that their decision can’t not be overturned.
Madam Edith-Gongloe Weh, also former superintendent of Nimba County is among pernmanent citizens who are eying the senatorial seat in the county.
