The Liberian Government has declared the Coronavirus outbreak as National Health emergency.

The government has, however, instituted several drastic measures to stop the spread of the virus in Liberia.

According to Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the government has suspended with immediate effect operations of commercial flights to Liberia, placed ban on religious services, casinos and betting institutions.

Dr. Jallah also said the ban will affect learning institutions including Universities, vocational and technical institutions, as well as, entertainment and movie centers.

She said the government will not condone large public gatherings and as such restaurants and cook shop are instructed to provide service to five costumers at a time.

According to Dr. Jallah, the measures are in response to government’s determination to halt the further spread of the Convid-19 in Liberia.

No Business as usual

“I’ve noticed business as usual. There were many people gathered at wells, people holding hands, hugging, people are crowded in the market”, she added.

“Based on the result of the third case, and the amount of contact, we have no choice, the Liberian government and the President of Liberia, together, after our meeting, we have no choice but to come out with the following directive”, Dr. Jallah adds.

The Liberia Health Minister said Montserrado and Margibi Counties have been declared as counties that currently experiencing the infection and urged residents of the two Counties to restrict their travel in and out.

Dr. Jallah said the Ministries of Health, Information and the Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) are the only government entities charged with the responsibility to disseminate information surrounding the outbreak.

Minister Jallah has called on public not to listen to unscrupulous people who are bent on provide false information to the public about the Convid-19.

So far, Liberia currently has 3-infection cases.

Two of the three infected are said to be  stable health condition and are still being monitored by doctors.
