Nimba County District # 5 Representative Samuel G. Korgar has dispelled rumors that he was received by large crowed of his supporters in Butuo Town recently upon his arrival in the country from Ghana.
Dispelling the rumors to reporter via mobile phone from his residence in Butuo Town, Representative Korgar termed the information as far from the true and was only coming from those he described as opposition in his district.
Representative Korgar claimed that at no point in time did he gather large crowed of his supporters, but rather it was his driver, security and his district coordinator who came alone the Cavalla River to await him, but did not come sit in the same vehicle.
The lawmaker asserted that he and his colleague including Representatives Edwin Melvin snow, Acarous Moses Gray, Munah E. Pelham Youngblood, Francis Dopoe and others departed the country on March 16, 2020 for government function to Ghana, but remain there till the borders of Ghana were closed, as he and Francis Dopoe decided to use the land passing through Ivory Coast to enter Liberia.
He added that he has been in communication with Liberia Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah and Representative Joseph Sonwarbi chairman of Health at the lower House, adding that they have been advising him via mobile phone to remain at home until after the 14 days incubation period.
Butuo is a town in District # 5 in Nimba county serving as one of the five recognized entry points in Nimba County and was the place used by Rebel leader now senator of Nimba County Prince Yormie Johnson to launch attack on the Doe government on December 24, 1990.
Some citizens of the district having been raising alarm that their lawmaker was not tested by health workers upon his arrival in that part of the county and was heavily received by over 100 of his supporters, something they said was against the health policy given by the Ministry of Health to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The Ministry of Health has requested all citizens to avoid shaking hands, hugging, gathering in large crowd and observing social distance by standing 6 feet apart from each other.
Speaking on behalf of the citizens, a pastor and civil society actor Rev. Sam Karwoods who himself is a son of the district claimed that the act carried out by the lawmaker was unacceptable and counterproductive to the fight against Coronavirus commonly called COVID-19.
Representative Korgar further narrated that a surveillance officer from the Bahn Health Center came and tested him at his residence in Butuo.
They are calling for the lawmaker to be tested by health worker’s, calming that he just returned from aboard and no one know his present health condition.
It was also disclosed that Representative Samuel G. Korgar entered Butuo through Ivory Coast from Ghana alone with his colleague Representative Francis Dopoe who later to Monrovia the same day upon arrival.
Rev. Karwoods lamented that the lawmaker and his colleague carry on human rights violation as he is calling for his lawmaker to be quarantine for 14 or 21 days.
