Liberia began a lockdown on Friday in an effort to the curb the transmission of the virus after a state of emergency was declared by President George Weah on April 8, 2020.
The state of Emergency covers all 15 counties of Liberia but 4 counties; Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba and Grand Kru are to observe a lockdown from 3PM (10:00AM EST) to dawn.
Social Distancing still a problem?
Liberia Public Radio reporters in the 4 counties said social distancing still remain a challenge as many residents were seen purchasing food items in huge numbers for the next days to come.
LPR’s Christopher Fahn in Saclepea City Nimba County said people were still been seen in market places in huge numbers thus violating the social distancing rule.
He said the county borders are yet to officially close and people continue to travel from either side of the border.
In Montserrado, huge numbers of people were seen Saturday April 11, 2020 at three local banks along the ELWA junction waiting to enter the banks for cash.
