Jackson F. Doe Hospital where new case of COVID-19 was tested positive

 Nimba County has recorded it second confirmed Covid 19 case in Tappita City the same lower area where the first case was recorded some weeks ago. 

The Second confirm Patient is a local Journalist who works with Voice of Tappita in lower Nimba County. 

The first case wish was reported in Nimba was also from Lower Nimba and a fellow who came from America to dowry his woman, but lost his life to the deadly virus after he reportedly fell off and was rush to the Jackson F. Doe referral Hospital.  

Making the disclosure in an interview with Radio Saclepea Saturday, the Assistant Administrator at the Jackson F. Doe referral Hospital, Ebenezer Strother said few days ago Jeremiah Gayflor visited the hospital when he was showing all signs and symptoms of the virus. 

“He had 1+  malaria, running stomach and fever and we treated him for all the signs he was showing”, he adds.

According to Mr. Strother, after Jeremiah was treated  and showed some sign of improvement, health workers requested to take his specimen and he consented and took his specimen and asked him to go back home and quarantine himself, promising to call him when results of his come up. 

Strother further explained that Jeremiah did not stay away from public gathering or quarantine himself as was instructed by the health workers.

Explaining further, Strother admitted that the case Management team at the hospital ethically transgressed by allowing the patient to go home when his result was still pending. 

He maintained that due to the influx of patients, the hospital does not have the capacity for isolation. 

“The community has too much pressure on us, JFD is a major referral hospital, we receive patients from Guinea and Ivory Coast amd the South East, So we don’t have space for isolation”.

He added that one major challenge in the area is the lack of testing center. 

The Assistant Administrator revealed that they are working with local authorities in the area to trace those Jeremiah may have come in contact with. 

He also disclosed that some of the contacts have already reported themselves for early medical care.

There has been no trace of how Jeremiah came down with the virus.

Jeremiah is the first Liberian journalist to be tested positive of the virus thereby raising concern for the safety of media practitioners who interact with thousands of people on the daily basic.

At least 81 people have now been tested positive of the virus since the outbreak erupted in mid-March 2020.
