The Founder of the Watkins Initiative for Nations (WIN) says the organization has earmarked several development initiatives within 32 communities in the Congo Township in Montserrado County in the areas of water and sanitation.
According to the Founder Y. Solomon Watkins, the project is community driven which the people could take ownership of the various initiatives which have been implemented through WIN to transform the socio and economic development of these communities.
Mr. Watkins made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with Liberia Public Radio recently on the Old Road suburb of Monrovia.
He indicated that the organization is based on three pillars currently which are education, environmental and health including infrastructural development.
According to him, presently the organization is engaged with water and sanitation project intended to ensure that the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) supply safe drinking water in these communities.
He revealed that the organization also provide scholarship program for elementary and secondary schools children , however, these initiatives have been on halt due to the on going fight against COVID-19 across the nation.
Mr. Watkins stated that his institution has been engaged with the fight against COVID-19 through the process of providing hands washing buckets along with sanitary materials in the various communities within the Congo Township to prevent the spread of the deadly disease among the population.
He urged all Liberians to adhere to all the preventive measures instituted by the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), as a surest way to eradicate the virus from the country.
He believed that it is about time that the government consider economic recovery plan to enhance post COVID-19 of the Liberia’s Economy.
Mr. Watkins stressed that the entire population is “vulnerable” as the result of COVID-19 and government stimulus package should not be limited to particular portion of the population, noting that everybody has become “vulnerable” now.
