Diaspora Nimbains donate over USD$14K back home

Sons and Daughters of Nimba County living in various parts of the world have made a huge contribution to the county admits the fight against coronavirus. 
 
The group under the banner Union of Nimba Organizations in the diaspora(UNOD), a special arm of United Nimba Citizens Council (UNICCO), in collaboration with all the nimba organizations in the diaspora established Nimba COVID-19 Task Force about two months ago to contribute to the fight against coronavirus back in their county.
 
UNOD on Saturday June 13 through her country representative donated a little over ($14. 000) fourteen thousand United States dollars to the 19 Administrative Districts in Nimba at the Gompa Concern Women Center. 
 
Given the background of the group and donation, the Country Representative of UNICCO Madam Phelecia Yeebahn explained that the amount was collected among various Nimba organizations in the diaspora. 
 
Madam Yeebahn indicated that UNIDO was established about two months ago for the purpose of generating fund to empower their people combat Covid 19. 
 
She further explained that due to the closure of Air lines and various boarders, the group could not purchase preventive materials to be sent in Liberia, But rather chose to sent the finance for local authorities purchase what they think is most needed in their respective districts to combat Covid 19. 
 
The UNICCO country representative disclosed that monitoring and evaluation will be conducted to ensure transparency. 
 
“We will come to you and collect receipts of what you bought with the money and send them back to America to ensure that the money was used properly”, they added.
 
Each of the 19 Administrative Districts received the amount of six thousand USD  ($6.000).
 
Speaking during the donation, Nimba District number Three representative Joseph N. Sonwiba who is the chairman on Health at the lower House of the Liberian Parliment mentioned that the action by sons and daughters of the county demonstrate high level of patriotism. 
 
Representative Sonwiba asserted that those in the diaspora are highly hit by the virus, but to collect such amount in a short period of time to send to their people worth commendation. 
 
For his part, Nimba County Superintendent Nelson Korquoi cautioned the Administrative District Commissioners and OIC’s to make good use of the money giving them, adding that the county administration will make a vigorous follow up to ensure that their is no corrupt practices. 
 
He maintained that administrative actions will be taken against any Commissioner found misappropriating the fund.
