Greenville, Sinoe_Mandra, a Logging company operating in the Sewacajua Community forest, located in the Seekon, Waccaba and Juazon communities, Sinoe County have been threatened by the communities to terminate it contract signed with the community for failing to adhere to the agreement.
Morris Sua who chaired the Executive committee told Liberia Public Radio that Madra inability to implement her third parties agreement has caused the SEWACAJUA communities to lost approximately one and half million united dollars.
he outlined fourteen hand pumps, fourteen pip latrines, the rehabilitation of four feeder roads, construction of four schools and a clinic are amongst some of the communities benefits the company has fail to live up to.
Mr. Sua intimated that preparedness of the Executive committee to drag Madra to court is underway, a process which will determine her exist from SEWACAJUA, saying further that the forestry development authority (FDA) has already received a communication to end Mandra`s contract.
He mentioned that upon the departure of Mandra from the community they will advertise the forest and use a systematic and collective process to select new concession company to operate in the SEWACAJUA forest.
It can be recall that SEWACAJUA on 28 May 2020 put to halt the operations of Mandra for failing to comply with the third-party memorandum of understanding between they and the community.
Mandra has also been accused of landgrabbing and distruction of forests belonging to local communities in Sinoe County.
Efforts to contact the management of Mandra on the residents claims proved fruitless as their phone rang endlessly up to the publication of this story.
Two years ago, Mandra Logging Company signed a contract with Sawacajuah Community to harvest logs. The total contract area is 31,336 hectares with duration of 15 years.
