The Leadership of the Soul Clinic Community in Paynesville, Montserrado County, is commending First Lady Clar Marie Weah for identifying with them in support of efforts to contain the further spread of covid19 in Liberia.
On Thursday, July 2, 2020, the Soul Clinic Community became the latest beneficiary of the Clar Hope Foundation’s interventions aimed at buttressing the national covid19 response initiatives to end the virus in the country.
Speaking when he received a five-thousand (5,000) locally made masks, five (5) cartons of chlorax and fifteen (15) cartons of klim soap, the Community’s Secretary General, Joseph Weatue, Jr. expressed profound gratitude.
Mr. Weatue stressed that Mrs. Weah’s kind gesture, which he noted came as a surprise, would go a long way in helping community members stay safe.
“We are grateful! We are overwhelmed by this donation because we did not ask her (the First Lady) for it,” Mr. Weatue said, adding that such act of thoughtfulness on the part of Mrs. Weah demonstrates her concern for all Liberians.
“That shows that she is the mother of all, regardless of what your political affiliation is.”
The Soul Clinic Community’s chief scribe said, unlike other donations the community has benefited, this was the first time they had received masks in such a huge quantity.
He noted, that while he agrees with the scientifically-backed research that wearing mask is the cheapest and most effective way to curb the further spread of civid19, affording a mask was still a challenge for many in the community.
“Just as you rightly said, that is the cheapest way of saving yourself by wearing the masks but indeed to get the masks is so difficult for some of us, said Mr. Weatue.
Speaking earlier, on behalf of the First Lady’s Team, the Director of Press, Arthur T. Y. Douglas, Jr. said the donation was Mrs. Weah’s way of helping Liberians take the fight against covid-19 seriously and protect themselves and their families from falling prey to the virus.
Mr. Douglas pointed out that in addition to washing of hands regularly and keeping social distance, wearing of masks is an effective means of breaking the chain of covid19 transmission.
“In these plastic bags are five thousand mask for your community members to wear,” said the First Lady’s Director of Press.
“It is important, not just to give it to you to carry it home, but that you wear it. This is the goal of our country (that everyone uses masks) and this is what our First Lady is championing and putting all her efforts towards.”
Meanwhile, an additional five thousand masks were donated to the National Executive Committee on Covid19 Response, bring to a total of twenty-thousand masks provided to the Mary Broh led committee by the Clar Hope Foundation in two months.
