The Environmental protection Agency (EPA) has fined Shanyou Wood Industry with the amount of 10,000 United States Dollars for non-compliance and violation fees as enshrined in section 24, 25, 36, and 95 of the Environmental Protection Management Law (EPML).
According to the Acting Executive Director of EPA, Randall Dobayou, the Management of the Shanyou wood industry has being giving the period within 72hours to pay the 10,000Unitedstates dollars in the general revenue account of the government of Liberia.
Director Dobayou made the disclosure Wednesday at a Press Conference held at EPA’s Head Office in Sinkor.
He indicated that the management of the Shanyou Wood Industry should summit a copy of the flag receipt to the EPA as proof of its payment.
He pointed out that in accordance to section 26 of the EPML, Shanyou Wood Industry is required to summit to the agency its quarterly environmental monitoring reports.
Director Dobayou stressed that EPA strongly warned supporters and companies around the country to stop abusing and disrespecting environmental inspectors.
According to him, the inspectors represent the law and they should be respected with no precondition
He vowed that the agency will not relent to implement the law in consistent with its mandate to collect, analyze and prepare basic scientific data and other information pertaining to pollution, degradation and the conservation of the environment.
Director Dobayou emphasized that the EPA has established that various trucks utilized by Shanyou Wood Industry have been involved in the wrongful disposal of sawdust into the wetland ecosystem within Kakata, Margibi County.
He noted that this action amounts to a breach of the integrated Environmental Management Plan (EMP) presented by the company and enshrined within the submitted project brief and Environmental Permit.
