BONG University Students Association appeals for release of US$100,000 Scholarship fund

The Bong County University Students Association at the United Methodist University has launched an appeal to the Bong County Legislature Caucus to release the one hundred thousand United States dollars (US$100,000) that was allocated for the student community during the 2018/2019 county council sitting.

The association in a communication under the signatures of its secretary general, Jeremiah M. Gbanyan and its President, Mark N. Yourkpo dated July 14, 2020 copy of which is in possession of this Liberia Public Radio said since 2018 up to present students of Bong County are yet to benefit from money that was allotted to them.

“Now considering the difficult economic conditions this Global Pandemic (COVID-19) has created we foresee more of Bong County Students, particularly people who are in higher learning institutions to be out of school this coming semester if nothing is done to handle this situation” the association stated.

The Association in the communication further indicated that education being the gateway to development in every society, it’s important for the County (BONG) to invest more in educating the youthful generation in order to get the County prepare for future development.

The group further appealed to the Bong County Caucus Chairman Rep. Joseph Papa Kolleh to work with his colleagues to see the need of increasing the number of commercial bank in the County from one to at least two because of the challenges their people go through in accessing their finances.

According to the BUSA-UMU, it is uncomfortable for one banking institution to be in the third populated County of Liberia.

“If these appeals are accepted by your office it will bring economic and financial relief to our beloved County and its people, we anticipate a favorable respond from your good office as we all see the development of Bong County as our major priority” the Association indicated.
