A women Activist and a Liberian journalist has strongly condemned the Sexual Gender Based Violence acts, the abusing of women and girls that is continuously rising up in Grand Kru County.
James Myking Suah is a Liberian journalist and Grand Kru County Press Union of Liberia Coordinator County,also a Women Activist trained by UN Women to report on Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) issues across the county.
His statement comes in the wake of the death pronouncement of a 12-year-old girl rape Vitim who was pronounced death on July 24, 2020 by hospital staffers.
It can be recalled in June the late 12-years -old girl was allegedly raped by a 29 years old man identified as Augustine Yeah in Kaydor Wedabo Statutory District in Grand Kru County.
When Augustine Yeah committed the act he escaped and later move to a gold mining camp in Dentiken and the Liberia National Police was, able to get the alleged perpetrator on July 3, 2020 he was brought to Barclayville and charged with statutory rape and according to police report; he was forwarded to the magisterial court for trail.
The Victim was taken to the Rally Town Hospital, the county’s referral hospital but because of her, critical condition at that time, hospital staffers could not easily handle her they recommended a referral to the J.J. Dockson Hospital in HarperMaryland County.
When the case was firstly reported, it claimed the attention of the Gender Ministry and other group of women in Liberia and she was transferred to Monrovia at the SGBV treatment center but saddenly she was pronounced dead because of the injured sustain from the rape.
“Who knows she could be the next superintendent, or minister of Liberia” the women activist noted.
He’s calling on the government of Liberia and the Liberia National Police to starts to arrest parents, individual, community leaders who will want to compromise rape issues and SGBV related cases noting that justice should be served.
He disclosed that just in three months’ time Liberia has reported over six hundred rape cases across the county.
Mr. Suah revealed that he is also following up a Statutory Rape case that involved the City Solicitor City at the Sorroken Magisterial Court in Grand Kru County, Fancis Kaydor, 33, is accused of raping a seven-year-old girl on June 14 in Naweken Trehn District.
Prosecutor denies
The local prosecutor has denied the allegation.
But his denial of the allegation did not stop the Women and Children Protection Division of the county’s police detachment from nailing him with the charge of Statutory Rape.
The suspect was then sent to the Newaken Magisterial Court, which has since forwarded the case to the 12th Judicial Circuit Court of Barclayville, the provincial capital.
James However said, there are rumors in the corridor of Grand Kru and Maryland that the local legal practitioner who sent to the Harper Central prison he is Alledgedly not in cell, but the information is yet to be comfirmed by county Attroney and prison authorities.
Speaking to team of Reporters Barclayville recently, Mr. Suah said he wants the Gender Ministry to intensify its awareness in rural communities across the country to better educate those who are always in the act of abusing women and girl and to inform the people about women rights and how distraous it is when man raped a teenager.
