Opposition Political Parties Warn NEC For Credible Election

The Opposition Political Parties in Liberia has warned the National Elections Commission (NEC) to ensure that the pending senatorial elections are credible to avoid any crisis in the country.

Speaking on behalf of political parties recently at the launch of the review process of the 2017 voter roll, the National Vice Chair for Administration of National Democratic Coalition(NDC) Ciapha  Saah Gbohlie Jr. stressed that NEC should conduct  free, fair and transparent election  to ensure that peace and stability are maintained.

Mr. Gbohlie stated that political conflicts in Liberia have always emerged from the conduction of national elections which lack credibility, but hoped the new chairperson of NEC and her team will put the interest of the Liberian people first  rather than conducting un-credible election.

He indicated that cleaning up of the 2017 voter roll is critical towards   ensuring that the pending senatorial elections will be credible or not to determine the credibility of the electoral process in 2020 and 2023 elections respectively.

He lamented that since the 2017 Presidential and Representatives elections the voter roll has come under  a serious doubt from political parties and public   which the Supreme Court of Liberia and international partners have recommended to be cleaned.

Mr. Gbohlie maintained that NEC should ensure that the 2017 voter roll is properly cleaned to ensure the credibility of the pending senatorial elections, noting that this is major test for the new commissioners of NEC.

According to him, any attempt to undermine the votes of the people through the ballot box against their ways will be resisted strongly.

He explained that the Liberian people have suffered too long as the results political and constitutional crisis which NEC has a major responsibility to protect the votes of the people without favor to any party.

Mr. Gbohlie  than pledged the support of the opposition political parties to NEC  and ensure that they are prepare to along with NEC  to clean up the 2017 voter roll.

He made the statement when NEC launch of the review process of the 2017 voter roll and the involvement of stakeholders in the 2020 voter roll update held at its   Headquarters ib Sinkor. 

Observers believed  that cleanup of the 2017 voter roll for the December poll will  indicate  that the Liberia democratic process is growing  to another level of the democracy within the sub-region.
