Thousands of Liberians including women, men and children are today matching through the principle streets of Monrovia calling for an end to rape culture in the country.
dressed up in black, the campaigners say they are tired of seeing children as young as 3-year old being rape by elderly men and want government take punitive action.
More than 600 rape and sexually offensive cases have been recorded since January 2020, a report by the Liberia Gender and Children Protection Ministry says.
They are marching towards the Liberian legislative building on Capitol Hill to present petition to the government after president George Weah was unable to receive their earlier pettition at his office located the Foreign Ministry.
In a related development, report from Dorkeh- ta, Gbarpolu County says a 42 years old herbalist identified as Zinnah Jackson has been arrested, investigated and jailed by Bopolu magisterial Court in Gbarpolu County for allegedly raping a 16 years old girl over the weekend.
Dorkeh-ta is one of the largest Gold mining site in Gbarpolu County.
According to the report, 16 years old survivor went to the herbalist to heal her stomach pain and herb was boiled and given to her by the herbalist and she told to come back after some hours.
The 16 years old rape survivor after few hours went back to the herbalist for the second treatment where she was taken in his room to administer the second treatment, herbalist Jackson sexually abused her.
Following his alleged act against her, she therefore complained to the community chairperson of the area where herbalist Jackson was arrested by citizens of the area and turned him over to the police.
During police investigation, defendant Jackson admitted committing the crime against the 16 years old survivor.
While, another nine 9 years old girl was also victimized as a result of rape by a 29 -year- old man identified as Oscar Diah in Gbelta-korninga Chiefdom in Bopolu District, Gbarpolu County a week ago.
Details of the incident revealed that the 9 years old mother was sick and she was taken to the Chief Jallahlone Medical hospital by her father and leaving her with a neighbor in the community.
The neighbor whom, the 9 years survivor was left with cook food and sent it by her to carry to the house where the 29 suspect and a motorcyclist were staying when the incident took place.
The information further revealed that while in the process, the victim slapped and fell and then the suspect decided to lack his door and went on to sexually abuse the minor.
He used both finger and penis to penetrate the 9 year old in his quest to have sex with her.
The 9 year-old victim according to report is currently being transferred to Monrovia after her condition worsen in Gbarpolu to undergo advance medical treatment.
The two accused were were charged with rape in line with Chapter 14 section 14:70 of the revised penal law of the Republic of Liberia.
