Voter trucking turns sour; 3 sustained severe wounds in election related clashes in Cape Mount

Residents of Grand Cape County are currently living in fear due to blood bath that took place on Saturday and Sunday between supporters of opposition ANC candidate Simon Taylor and CDC candidate Victor Watson who is alleged of trucking people from Sierra Leone to register in the ongoing voter roll update.

At least three persons sustained major injuries including Journalist Omaska Jallah of the News Newspaper.

The incident occurred at two separate locations. One in Jene Liberia, Tewor District #3 while the other occurred in Latin along the Robertsport high way in Commonwealth District.

The incident in Jene Liberia started when supporters believed to be the ANC candidate Simon B. Taylor blocked the road alleging that a popular businessman known as Idrassa Mansaray always in the constant habit of transporting people from neighboring Sierra Leone to register and vote for candidate of his choice in Grand Cape Mount.

Idrassa is a wealthy diamond dealer mining in mineral rich Porkpa District in the county along the border of neighboring Sierra Leone.

 Supporters of Mr. Taylor alleged that this is not the first time of that the popular businessman has been ‘trucking’ Sierra Leoneans inducing them with cash  to take part take in Liberia’s elections making specific   to  CDC candidate  Victor Watson who won a senatorial by-election in October of last year.

The violent  clashed started at 10am in Jene Liberia in Tewor District #3 which police were informed about the situation but refused to go on the scene of the incident but rather responded at 9:30pm after the entire town came to stand still.

Due to this violent incident, the Voter Roll update also came to a stand still for nearly three hours something that women and children to escape in bushes for their lives.

Our correspondent said the situation was later brought under control through the intervention of CSO group, District Platform for Dialogue.

Journalist Omaska Jallah sustained injuries while performing his duty  in Jene Liberia.

Another person also suffered wounds in Latin Commonwealth District along the Robertsport high way.

Recently, residents of VOA community witnessed alleged trucking of some residents by National Transit Authority (NTA)  buses to Bomi County by former Speaker Alex J. Tyler.

 There has also reports of voter trucking in  Lofa County by some un-named aspirants  who intend is to take power at all cost by  trucking people from both Sierra Leone and Guinea in the county  to increase their voters.

Amid reports of consistent voters trucking, the National Election Commission is yet to make official comment of the situation.

The National Elections commission defines voter trucking as influencing people without willingly going to a particular constituent to register and vote for a particular candidate.
