A Collective Bargaining negotiation involving the Management of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation and the Workers has open in Monrovia with a call to promote labor harmony.
Assistant Labor Minister for Trade Union Affairs, Boakai Sirleaf urged the negotiating parties to promote the interest of the workers, management and the entire Country into consideration.
Minister Sirleaf called for openness into the negation process through honesty and sincerity.
“Let’s negotiate base on the facts, lets negotiate to improve the working environment, lets negotiate to sustain the company, lets negotiate so that the workers can be happy and the management is happy”
Minister Sirleaf reminded the parties that the negotiation is subjected to time limit and urged them to do all to avoid future difficulties that will force the two parties to return to a premature re-negotiating table.
He noted that good and sincere negotiation leads to a good working environment and enhance labor harmony.
The Managing Director of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation, Debar Allen expressed the hope that the negotiators will work towards developing an agreement that will takes into serious consideration interest of both parties.
Mr. Allen noted that the two parties will go into the negotiation will sincerity and respect for the views of every member of both side.
“ In a negotiation many time it not what you want on either side but some time you have to go with consensus is what you can live with, it is not the best for you and it is not the best for me but it is what you can live with”.
The workers are represented by the United Workers union of Liberia(UWUL) at the negotiating table.
So at the start of the negotiation on Thursday in Monrovia October 1,2020, UWUL Secretary General Dave Sneh said as workers, they were grateful for the commencement of the negotiation.
Mr. Sneh expressed the hope that they will be able to achieve what is good for the workers in the collective Bargaining Agreement through the negotiation.
“We know that what is enshrined in the Collective Bargaining agreement will be give and take during this negotiation process”.
The negotiation also covers the workers of Construction Mining Company and it’s the second negotiation in four years.
