Police Authority in Monrovia has released findings from a recommendation from the Professional standard Division in Lofa County for six police officers who allegedly tortured a 50-year-old woman and three persons in Ndawalahum, Kolahun District Lofa County through a news conference.
The findings says, bases upon police Investigation into the Kolahun, Lofa County incident of tortured, cruelty, inhuman and degrading treatment against some residents of Kalahun district, allegedly by officers assigned in Kolahun, Lofa County, the Authority of the Liberia National Police has with immediate effect taken the following actions:
Inspector Christiana Taylor (General Commander) Patrolman Francis M. Somah, Patrolman Frank A. Williams and Patrolman Jacob F. Fomba were relieved of their Post with immediate effect and suspended for time indefinite of their job without pay and turned over to the crime services division for further investigation pertaining to in connection with handcuffing, questioning and beating of victims Jenet Ndebeh, Ndebeh Harris, J. Patrick Fomba and Jartu Ndebeh of Kolahun District Lofa County on September 24,2020.
The victims were been tortured by officers of the LNP to confess or having knowledge of an 80 years old woman Wendor Kammajai death whose remains was discovered in a swamp belonging to Jenet Ndebeh.
According to the findings, the action of those officers are in violation of section 6.1 of the administration instructions on discipline and professional standards which points out the following offenses: torture, Cruelty, inhuman and degrading treatment.
Furthermore, the findings stated that sergeant Peter M. Beyan and Detective Andrew Tamba are exonerated on grounds that were out of the town hall in Ndawalahum town, a little distance from the scene compiling reports while the alleged victims were being beaten and tortured but they are suspended for one month without pay for their failure to report the alleged tortured incident against the victims.
The officer behavior also contravenes Chapter 2 section 1.58 and also Annex 3 scheduled of disciplinary penalty, section 3, category D Lack of truthfulness of the LNP duty manual.
It can be recalled on September 24,2020, victims Jenet Ndebeh and three others were been severely Flogged and tortured by six police officers after lifeless body of a missing 80-year-old woman Wendor Kammajai was discovered in a swamp belonging to her.
The police Professional standard division (PSD)in the county investigatigated inspector Christina Taylor and five other police officers of the Kolahun police detachment for torturing on a 50 years old survivor Jenet Ndebeh and three others survivors.
The six police officers are Sgt, Peter M. Beyan, Jacob F Fomba, Andrew H, Tamba, Frank Williams, Francis M. Sormah and inspector Christina Taylor General Commander all of the Kolahun police station.
Residents of the county wonder why Police officers who should protect lives and properties are the ones taking the lead in torturing and manhandling or accusing peaceful without investigation or doing what the laws or penal code says.
The alleged police officers are all assigned at the Kolahun District police station in Kolba City were invited for investigation by the Professional standard Division of police in Voinjama City over the weekend in connection with the recent mad handling and brutal beating of a 50 years old woman, Madam Jenneh Ndebay.
Madam Jenneh Ndebeh is seen with brushes all over her body, alleged that she was invited for questioning by police officers after a lifeless body of a 80 years old woman was found in a swamp belonging to her. Something according to her she knows nothing about.
According to her, officer Frank Williams popularly known as “Fat Boy “carried her behind a house, asked her to offer last prayer, and began beating on her with a cable wire.
Meanwhile, the sad situation has led to many human rights activists and Civil Society groups in the County have since condemned the alleged wicked act melted against the 50-year-old woman and called on national Government to ensure that Justice is served into the matter for the victim.
