Local Journalist mysteriously found dead; press union of Liberia official warns journalists to be ‘very careful’

A Liberian broadcaster and a motorcyclist Chris Davies of Radio paraclate in Gbarnga was reported dead after been shot by unknown gunmen in Bong County.

Journalist Chris Davies mysteriously die with bullets wound, although cause yet to be formally established by police.

Liberia Public Radio’s national Correspondent in Gbarnga said the incident happened at (3:45 PM EST) 8:45 pm local time on Thursday October 29, 2020 after David had left from work at Radio Paraclete.

He said David’s death sparked protests from motorcyclists in Gbarnga, who are demanding the intervention of the Liberia National Police.

 Davies’ body was discovered Friday afternoon in Gbarnga by relatives and friends around the regional Hub on Lofa road after he went     missing.

 Radio Paraclete’s station manager, Nathan Matthews, described his former reporter as a dedicated staffer of the station.

“Chris ran motorbike after working hours and was a very decent and hardworking journalist”, Mr. Matthews told our reporter in Gbarnaga.

 The late Chris previously worked for Radio Kakata, Radio Joy Africa and other outlets in Kakata Margibi County before he later joined the Catholic run outlet in March of 2020.

He studies counselling at Dayspring Bible College.

Motorcylists in Gbarnaga are demanding an immediate investigation into the death of the journalist with some  threatening to get on the rampage.

Meanwhile, the press Union of Liberia Bong County coordinator Samuel Kplawiru has condemned the sudden death of their colleague and call on the Liberia National Police to probe speedy investigation to determine the doer of the act.

Mr. Kplawiru however called on journalists in the county to be ‘very careful’ as they engage the electoral activities across the county.

Chris Davies is the second journalist to be killed since 2018 after the death of journalist Tyron Brown of Super TV and FM whose killer Jonathan Williams is currently facing life imprisonment at the national correction place in Zwedru Grand Gedeh County.
