Liberia’s main opposition party chair wants education prioritize; amid “messy” system

As the Liberian government strives to improve the country’s education system students and young people have been urged to muster the courage to learn.

According to statistics, about 65% of Liberia’s 4.6 million population is youth majority of whom do not have access to quality education.

With the so-called “messy” education, system youths in the country continue to face challenges amid the lack of several learning materials to enhance their academic sojourn.

Former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf once described the system a “mess” due to the poor quality of the education sector Liberia.

In response to the president request, Liberia’s education minister Professor Dao Ansu Sonii, apologized to president Weah and announced that renovation works have began on some dilapidated public schools in Monrovia.

Amin Modad, chairman of the former ruling party recently told Liberia Public Radio that  no nation can develop when the people are not educated to move the national agenda for the growth and development of the nation.

According to him, without education it is impossible for any major developmental drive can be implemented in nation which education is not prioritized.

Addressing graduating students recently at Juah Sarwee Memorial Wellance  Institute said there is a need to overhaul the mess in the education system while at the same time admonishing students to remain studious about their learning process.

Despite  of these challenges, Modad has urged graduates to persue higher education in order to prepare for the challenges ahead, noting that Liberia is face with serious economic problems.

He said graduates should not limit their potential to excel as the result the environment and situation in the country.

He noted that more than 15 students who represent school it’s first West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) were successful.

‘Deplorable public Schools’

Recently President George Manneh Weah visited several public schools lying in a deplorable state.

President weah then issued a 72 hours ultimatum to replace the damaged ceiling at the D. Tweh High School and other public schools in Montserrado.
