The Liberia Electricity Cooperation (LEC) has been granted four licenses in the areas of generation, transmission, distribution and system operation.
The licenses were presented Tuesday to the LEC by the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC).
Speaking during program marking the issuance of the four Licenses to the LEC, LERC Board Chairman Dr. Lawrence Sekajipo said the move is in line with the 2015 electricity Law of Liberia and the regulations that provides for one entity to engage in multiples electricity supply industry.
According to Dr. Sekajipo, the granting of the licenses to the LEC is to ensure affordable and stable electricity.
In response, LEC Chief Executive Office, Prishothman Govender described the process as a milestone in the electricity sector of Liberia.
Mr. Govender said over the last three years, LEC has experienced a significance growth in its customer base in the energy sector.
