Bong County District #5 Representative, Edward Karfiah has described girls’ education as key to the growth and development of every nation.

Representative Karfiah said women play a vital role in the population and territorial expansion of every given society when they are educated.

The Bong County District #5 Lawmaker stated that Liberian women continue to fall prey to sexual and other forms of violence due to the lack of educational empowerment schemes to better their lives.

He believes women too have the ability to compete with their male counterparts in governance, technology and entrepreneurship when they have the space to unleash their potentials.

Representative Karfiah at the same time warned against early marriage, something he said has damaged the futures and hope of many young girls in the Country.

The Chairman on Public Accounts and Expenditure at the 54th Legislature was speaking Monday March 15, 2021 in Sinyea, Suakoko District, at the end of a four-day retreat organized by “Girls With A Difference (G-WAD), a local women’s organization in the area.

He then presented five hundred United States Dollars ($500) as an initial contribution to empower the group with a commitment to make available same amount ($500USD) every month.

For her part, the Executive Director of the Organization, Mrs. Ruth Getty applauded Rep. Karfiah for the gesture and promised to use the money wisely.

Mrs. Getty said the contribution of the Lawmaker will go a long way in the history of the organization while soliciting more support to the group.
