President Weah Blasts Local Leaders for ‘reneging’ on responsibilities in rural Liberia

Gbarma, Gbarpolu_President George Weah has hit hard on local leaders for “not taking care of their responsibility as leader” but rather relying on the Presidency.

Speaking at a one-day, Town hall meeting with citizens of Gola Konneh District, in Grand Cape Mount County as part of his second phase engagement with citizens of rural parts of Liberia, the President cautioned local leaders to take care of the responsibility and stop shadowing it on the Presidency.

There are common things you can do as leader or lawmaker in your County, not everything the President will do, there are things we as a Government will do and there are things you, yourself need to do for your people, who have elected and trust in you, the President.

President Weah, expressed shame on local leaders of Grand Cape Mount County, particularly residents of Gola Konneh, after the citizens mostly school going kids decried on the President for the lack of Armchairs in the District only Government school.

Students of Gola Konneh, express grievances of sitting on the floor to learn due to the lack of Arm chairs for them to sit, something the President terms as shame and disgrace on local leaders of the county, who are capable of providing it, but relying on the Presidency.

” You have brought me shame and disgrace to hear these children are sitting on the floor while acquiring their education, which will help built our country tomorrow, these children are the future leaders of our country and can not be sitting on the floor to learn, while they have a lawmaker, something that is very very much, embarrassing, President Weah intoned.

There is the common you can do as a lawmaker of your people and there is a bigger one the Government can do for you, the President said in the presence of Grand Cape County District#1 Representative Bob Sheriff.

The President blasted at local leadership of Grand Cape Mount County for what he terms as failing to address the plats of the ordinary people of the county.

The Liberian Leader noted that some of the many challenges the people of Grand Cape Mount county are face with can be addressed by their local leadership.

President Weah, than on the spot bought 540 Armchairs to be used by Students of the Tian Public School in the Gola Konneh District.

Additionally the President disclosed that Seven Public School will be built by the Government of Liberia in the western region of Bomi to Grand Gedeh County.

President Weah, than assured youth of Gola Konneh District of a construction of a Vocational training center for the youth of the district.

He described Technical and vocational education as important to the society and there’s need that the youth of Liberia have access to Vocational education
