Lofa County Senator Stephen Zargo wants leaders of the ECOWAS sub-region take robust action aimed at effecting changes in the lives of it youthful pollution.
Senator Zargo said serious and though decisions are needed from leaders of the West African sub-region if the dream of the region’s forefathers is to be actualized.
The former Liberty Party Chairman spoke at the recently held West African Parliament meeting in Sierra Leon’s Capital Freetown.
The objective of the meeting was to involve Members of ECOWAS Parliament in monitoring the implementation of the protocol on the Community Levy in order to ensure adequate collection of resources, which is necessary for financing the activities of the community.
Community Levy is a mechanism put in place by the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government. It has been operational since 2003. This mechanism is intended to mobilize funds necessary for the accomplishment of ECOWAS missions.
But without harsh and robust action Senator Zargo noted, it will almost be impossible for the region to achieve its targeted objectives like EOCWAS vision 2030 and Community Levy Mechanism as well as provide opportunities for young people.
He called for incorporation of young people in conversation that matters to the development of the region noting that it is about time the West African region introduced one language to be spoken across the region.
‘One language’
The Lofa County lawmaker who described language as a medium in which culture is translated said when introduced, will greatly impact West Africa youthful population and give them direction for future.
Senator Zargo reminded his fellow ECOWAS Parliamentarian that they were gradually aging and if nothing is urgently done in, providing a sense of belonging for the young people, the region and the rest of Africa be domed.
Others members of the Liberia delegation who attended COWAS Parliament meeting were Bomi Representative Haja Fatta Siryon, Bomi County Senator Edwin Snow, and Lofa county District three Representative Clarence Kortu Massaquoi.
