Liberia: LDEA calls on President Weah to declare drugs National Emergency; disrobes its Grand Kru County Detachment

The Grand Kru LEDA detachment was disrobed following investigation

Liberia drugs enforcement Agency has disrobed its Grand Kru Detachment for drugs impropriety while suspending another at the New Kru Town detachment for three months without pay.

The Grand Kru LEDA detachment was disrobed following investigation into their alleged involvement in the repackaging of two kilo cocaine arrested from one Margret Varbah Wolobah.

39-year-old Varbah Wolobah was arrested in February this year but was released on bail by the 12 Judicial circuit Court in Barclayville. She was subsequently rearrested in Grand Cape County with one kilo of cocaine after fleeing Grand Kru County.

Those disrobed by the LDEA are Hanna Kenyenon Commander, Albert Saah Deputy Commander, Alfred Sonbi OPS and Mark Robert.

Urias Gleh former commander of the New Kru Town detachment was suspended for three months without pay.

Addressing a news conference in Monrovia Liberia Drugs enforcement Agency Director General Sebastian Adam Gibson noted that the act exhibited by the disrobed officers contravene category D.7/18 in line with article N.5 Page 17 of the duty manual which recommends dismissal for unbecoming behavior.

The LDEA boss also noted that the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency has ensured the prosecution conviction of four people for unlicensed and illicit possess of narcotics substances in River Gee County.

According to the Director Gibson Joseph Chigoze age 37, a Nigerian National Harrison Jeko age 24, a Liberian were both sentenced to one year in prison while suspect Eric Jackson 31, and Patient Tokpa age 21, where both sentenced to six and four moths respectively.

Director General Gibson motioned that LDEA will leave no stone unturned in getting its bad apple out as the entity cannot be the one facilitating drugs crimes in the country.

He admonished the pubic to aid the LDEA in combating drugs abuse describing the role of the communities as very important in eradicating drugs.

Meanwhile, amidst growing drugs abuse and trafficking in the country, the LDEA boss is recommending calling on President George Weah to declare drugs abuse and trafficking as a national emergency.

Sabastian Adam Gibson also urged President Weah direct necessary support towards the entity if the issue of drugs abuse is to be dealt with.

He at the same time described Liberia drug law as week noting it is undermining the fight against drugs abuse.

In related development the Liberia Drugs enforcement Agency is expected to conduct training for LDEA officers in Grand Gedeh, Montserrado, Bong and Grand Cape Mount Counties.
