President Weah concludes day-long dialogue on Nimba land dispute

President Weah says a constituted committee would be announced to probe the longstanding land dispute in Nimba County.

MONROVIA, Liberia- The Government of Liberia has ended a one day Peace Conference on the Nimba Land Dispute in Monrovia as efforts to curb the breeding violence in that part of the country.

Speaking President George Manneh Weah said a constituted committee would be announced to probe the longstanding land dispute in Nimba County.

Recently , the Jabateh, Suah, Donzo and Kromah families have engaged into land crisis that created fears in Liberians both in and out of the country.

The President George Manneh Weah said no tribe has monopoly over land in the country, noting every citizen has the right to own property.

The Liberian Leader said it is unfortunate for  a country emerging from civil war citizens to be embroiled into land crisis.

He termed as barbaric the act of citizens to be at conflict because of land issues which has the propensity to derail the peace.

According to the President, Liberia is a country of law and it is upon all citizens to respect and be guided by such if the peace should be maintained.

According to him, it is important for each and every Liberian to peacefully coexist by using dialogue as an amicable solution.

For his part, Nimba County Senator,  Prince Johnson said it is unfortunate for Nimba to still be struggling with land crisis after 11 years.

Senator Johnson noted that the resurfacing of the land issue is astonishing because it was resolved during the regime of Former President, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

At the same time, he recommends that the Judge who ordered the eviction knowing that it is within the fast period without informing the county authorities must be removed from office, because his action has caused damage.

Also speaking, Civil Society Nyan Flomo stressed that the conflict in Nimba is not tribal but individuals against individuals.
