At least two persons have been pronounced dead in Tuesday’s violence that led to the setting ablaze of a police station in the southeastern city of Zwedru Grand Gedeh County.
According to Liberia Public Radio Southern Liberia correspondent in Grand Gedeh County, last month, a Fula man beat a man identified as Abraham Flagar for LRD$10.00 ( 0.05 USD) Liberian Dollars , who subsequently died as a result of internal bleeding.
He said due to his death, angry crowd took to the streets Tuesday, May 18, 2021, setting up road blocks and forcibly shutting down Fulani businesses in Zwedru.
Our Correspondent said while protesting, a pickup belonging to the Police Special Unit (PSU) ran into the angry crowd, thus smashing one of the protesters, identified as Wilson Nenneh, the president of the local motorcyclists union in the area.
on other hand Wilson was reported dead, but hospital sources could not confirm if he is still alive or dead.
Police Spokesman, Moses Cater, told state radio that authorities were working assiduously to restore calm, describing the burning of the police station as unfortunate.
Meanwhile, Grand Gedeh County Superintendent, Kai Farley, has appealed for calm, and at the same time calling for reinforcement of security to address the situation.
An official of the county who prefer not be named told LPR that least two persons have been confirmed dead in following the incident that brought businesses in the city to a stand still for the whole day.
