Weah says the renovation is a big relief for doctors at the ICU at JFK

There’s no worry for accident victims or people needing critical and intensive cares from wounds or trauma as President Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Monday May 17, 2021 dedicated the newly renovated intensive care unit (ICU) and Trauma Unit at the John F. Kennedy memorial Medical Hospital.

The JFK, constructed in 1971 is the country’s major referral hospital located in central Monrovia.

The President and his entourages officially open the hospital which will now cater to emergency patients, the expanded ICU and trauma unit has approximately 10 beds, including two in an isolation room with strengthened infection control measures for the most at-risk patients. “

Kennedy Medical Center.

For his part President George Manneh Weah said the dedicatory ceremony was a clear manifestation of his interventions and appeal to recognize and appreciate the positive response from two companies in the private sector.

 The facilities  were refurbished by the  National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), and TGS-Nopec as part of  their Corporate Social Responsibility, to improve, upgrade, expand, and equip Health facilities” across Liberia.

He described the upgrading of the ICU and trauma facilities as huge boost to the country fragile health sector.

The Liberian leader said the expansion of the facility was important because the hospital doesn’t only serve as a national referral hospital but a teaching hospital in Liberia since its foundation in 1971.

The President also acknowledged that despite it long years of existence the John F. Kennedy Medical Hospital has been majorly challenge in meeting up with the full standard of healthcare delivery as expected due to financial constrain which has limited its operations in the country.

The Liberian Leader than lauded the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL ) and TGS- Nopec for their combined efforts in renovating, upgrading, expanding and equipping the facility to help serve Liberians.

He expressed concern of the lack of intensive care and trauma units in Liberia over the years, which prompted his administration intervention to lobby with companies for modern facilities at various hospital across the country.

The Liberian leader then praised NOCAL boss Attorney-At Law Saifuah Mai Gray for her hard work and contribution to the milestone initiative thereby dispelling  the notion that young people are not experienced and cannot deliver.  

“The NOCAL that we know; you met it bankrupt and in a huge financial deficit. You went there , Stabilize it and now you have brought this very impressive project to successful completion, I therefore urge all young professionals who are put in positions of responsibility, to emulate her great leadership”, Pres. Weah noted. 

Also speaking in short, the CEO of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical hospital Dr. Jerry Brown thanked Nocal- Liberia and TGS- Nopec for the renovation of the facilities, which he described as great initiative and come at the right time in dying health sector of Liberia.

“We are so deeply appreciative to Nocal- Liberia and TGS-Nopec for their continued support of John F. Kennedy Memorial -Medical Hospital Bryn Mawr Hospital,” says Dr. Brown.

He said “The renovations made to the ICU and trauma units demonstrate JFK commitment to providing a superior experience to all who come to the hospital for care—especially to youngest patients. We are honored to dedicate this units at the JFK, and are thrilled that the beautiful renovations match the highly-skilled, compassionate care our team provides.” Dr. Brown said.

The JFK Chief, express concern of lack private wall at these units, something he said could be challenging to the VIP, because there’s only care for all as first come first serve basic.

“We are going to treat people injured in road traffic, domestic accidents, as well as war-wounded, among others, there’s no specification of who you are, we are going to serve everyone with dedication and commitment, Dr. Brown added.

He said the JFK is going to treat patients in all area, be it Government officials or non- government official as there will be no discrimination, Dr. Brown also said the hospital will treats patients referred from other areas or hospitals as aims to provide quality healthcare for all patients,”
