Zorzor magisterial asks three criminal to restitute over LRD$217,000 for stolen solar light

A Local Court Northern in Zorzor District Liberia has found three men guilty of theft of property and asked to pay US$1,280 or (LRD$217,600) as restitution for the damage Solar lights in Fessibu or risk going to common prison for one year.

 The Magisterial Court in Zorzor, Lofa Court, also fined the three men LRD$500.00 (US$3.50).

Those found guilty are 19 year-old Jerry P. Sumo, 25 year-old Flomo Subah, and Jerry Dukuly 19.

Jerry Weah, who bought the solar lights was found guilty for “Criminal Facilitation” and told to pay $150.00 (one hundred and fifty United States Dollars) or face three months in prison.

The Court however acquitted defendant Flomo Bestman due to lack of sufficient evidence to link him to the crime,

The streetlights were installed in Fessibu Town, Zorzor District during President recent tour of Lofa County.

Many across the Zorzor District have welcome the local Court ruling noting that it will served as a deterrent to would be perpetrator.

Poor maintenance and management of public facilities is major problem for Liberia.

In 2017, the European Union lighted streets in Zorzor with solar panel and distributed some to institutions including the only government High School in the district and the only Police station, but all of the lights placed in the street are off due poor management and act of criminality by unscrupulous individuals who often take the battery away.
