President Weah dismisses senior official for questioning government’s ‘weak’ COVID-19 strategy

President George Weah has dismissed  Deputy Information Minister Eugene Fahngon-days after he publicly questioned government’s strategy in combating Covid-19 nationwide.

President George Weah has relieved with immediate effect, Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Eugne Fahngon.

An executive Mansion release issued late Wednesday evening reveals that the decision to relieve Mr. Fahngon of his post is because of spreading false information regarding the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the country.

The press release also quoted   President Weah as warning that he will not hesitate to take similar action against any other official of government engaged in activities that undermine established government policy.

Fahngon’s stance on COVID-19

 Fahngon on Tuesday went bold by saying that the President Weah’s legacy risks being undermined following his government’s “weak” measures to combat Covid-19 pandemic in Liberia.

He argued that president Weah was being ill-advised by members of his cabinet about the current reality the country of the coronavirus in the country and was not taking the toughest action to curb the transmission of the virus.

He also added that the president would find it difficult to get re-election in the country next presidential election in 2023 if the few hand full of people around him are not dismissed.

“If anyone tells to you that the popularity of our President and the love the people have for him will get him elected in 2023 if the situation does not change, tell them Fahngon says, you damn lie; even if it means I’m booted out,” he said in a facebook post cast.
