Cote d’Ivoire to host high level IDA-20 meeting

A high-level meeting of the 20th Replenishment of Resources of the International Development Association (IDA-20) takes place Thursday, July 15, 2021, in Abidjan

The meeting will be hosted by the Government of Côte d’Ivoire.  

The high level Heads of States gathering is to support a strong recovery program in Africa amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will also help create a framework for the African continent to continue its economic transformation program.

Several Heads of States and Heads of Government are expected to attend the meeting.

Those due to participate in the meeting are,  Patrice Talon of Benin, Roch Marc Christian Kabore of Burkina Faso, Sahele-Work Zewde of Ethiopia, Alpha Condé of Guinea, Umaro Sissoco Embalo  of Guinea-Bissau, George Weah  of Liberia, Andry Rajoelina  of Madagascar.

Others include, Ould El-Ghazouani  of Mauritania, Filipe Niusy  of Mozambique, Mohamed Bazoum  of Niger, Paul Kagamé  of Rwanda, Macky Sall  of Senega, Abdallah Hamdok  of Sudan and Faure Gnassingbé  of Togo.

According to our Correspondent in Abidjan, several high profile individuals including,  World Bank Director for Operations, Mr. Axel van Trotsenburg, the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation Mr. Makhtar Diop, and the President of the Commission of the African Union, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat will speak on various topics, focusing on the financing of economic recovery, human capital and employment, amongst others.

Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara is poised to deliver the opening address at the Conference.

 Heads of State and Heads of Delegation will also meet behind closed door to brainstorm on the development priorities of the Continent, the impact of COVID-19, the economic recovery plan, the financing needs of various Countries, the role of IDA-20 and experience sharing.

The International Development Association (IDA), which is an arm of the World Bank is involved in helping low-income countries with loans and grants to reduce poverty  and stimulate economic growth, reduce inequalities and improve the lives of the Venerable people.

 IDA also provides substantial debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC) and the Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative, (MDRI).
