President Alassane Ouattara Expresses Hope, Social Cohesion and Reconciliation on Abraham Day

The Ivorian head of state, Alassane Ouattara, on Tuesday advocated “gathering, peace and harmony” in Côte d’Ivoire on the feast of Abraham’s day (commonly called “Tabaski”) in Cote d’Ivoire.

The president made the statement  after the prayer on the esplanade of the Grande Riviera Golf mosque in Cocody, Abidjan.

“We wish a happy Tabaski feast to all the populations of Côte d’Ivoire, to Muslims around the world, and I would like to tell my fellow citizens that this feast is a feast of gathering, of peace and of harmony”, declared Mr. Alassane Ouattara to the media.

The Ivorian president hoped that “the steps that have been taken for social cohesion, for reconciliation, can continue to be strengthened so that Ivory Coast will continue to live in peace” and tranquility.

He reassured his compatriots and all the populations residing on the Ivorian soil that by the grace of the Almighty Allah, the security of the country, in the context of a terrorist threat, will be ensured, while praying “that Allah protects Côte d’Ivoire “and grant good health and peace to all.

The president of the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI, ex-ally in power), Henri Konan Bédié, also expressed on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 a “happy” feast of Tabaski to Muslims, wishing a “Côte d’Ivoire gathered and reconciled”, in a message.

“May God, in his mercy, hear and accept our prayers for a Côte d’Ivoire united and reconciled around its fundamental values,” said the leader of the PDCI, joining the Muslim community in giving thanks to Allah.

The former head of state expressed joy that the Almighty God has allowed this celebration “in all tranquility, once again the feast of the sacrifice of the sheep: a sacrifice to God to tell him that we are ready to sacrifice the sheep, best of ourselves for him”.
