According to Representative Barshell many of those affected are involved with what he refers to as “hand-to-mouth” business (selling to eat) and has received numerous complain about the difficulties that has accompany the relocation.

The Weah led administration about two months ago took a brave decision that previous government could not take to relocated the country’s biggest market, the “Red LIGHT” to Omega Community.

The relocation of the market to Omega Community have since sparked debate among Liberians.

For more than 25 years now, the Red Light market has been a hustle ground for thousands of Liberians, male and female, young and old, University graduate tire of walking around for jobs and successive regime has been cautious about how to handle its affairs.

Security forces are often seen fighting stubborn marketers and a daily basis who have express dissatisfaction over the unpreparedness of the omega to host them.

Amidst all of these government Representative Barshell whose district portion of the red light market falls, thinks that the Weah-led government decision was ill-advised and urged the government speedily complete the much talk about Omega Market.

The District #3 Lawmaker mentioned that he is still wondering as to why the government took such a hasty decision despite been aware that the Omega Market was not prepared to host the thousands of Liberians who converge in red light every morning in search of their daily bread.

He explained that why everyone is in need of development, it should be properly plan so it does not affect those who are to benefit from such development.

Representative Barshell urged the government to allow the marketers especially those at Portray market in his district to remain there until the Omega market project is completed.

Government not doing enough

Weighing in on the performance of the Weah administration, Representative Barshell said it is glaring fact that the lives of the ordinary people have worsened over the last three years.

Representative Barshell who is the proprietor of the Barshell University told a team of reporters that Liberians are struggling to get the basic social services they were promised by Mr. Weah and his team in 2017.

He noted that though Weah administration did not create some of the problems facing the country, but its failure to find solution through innovative means has compounded the situation.

The Unity Party lawmaker attributed the failure of the CDC government to its inability to mobilize the country best character who could help move the country forward.

Representative Barshell noted that the government harmonization policy which he said was instituted to accommodate the thousands of its partisans it included on the payroll upon office, has reduced living standards of government’s employees and their families.

Boakai a better choice.

As the main opposition Collaborating Political Parties gets prepare to determine who their standard will be for the 2023 elections either by consensus or primary, Representative Barshell believes that former Vice President Joseph Boakai is his choice for the standard bearer position of the CPP.

Barshell mentioned that the distinct character the former Vice President has shown over the years in public service cannot allow him to pick anyone over the Unity Party Standard Bearer comes 2023.

He said those criticizing the former Vice President of the not doing enough are just been political because they are aware of the constitutional responsibility of a Liberian Vice President.

The UP Lawmaker noted that the former VP was not in charge for 12 years during the UP administration and blaming him for the anything that may have gone wrong is nothing but hypocrisy.

“the former Vice President transformed institutions he headed including the defunct Liberia Produced and Marketing Corporation (LPMC), Ministry of Agriculture, the Young Men Christians Association (YMCA) among others, so to be questioning his ability to transform the country is a complete pretense” he said.
