Liberia’s Civil Society council makes case for Women Empowerment

The Chairperson of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, Loretta Alethea-Pope-Kai, has called for the removal of barriers that are capable of limiting the women progress and skills in leadership role in the country.

 She told a gathering of women recently that it is about time Women break away from stereotype traditions and Custom that only men is capable of serving in aquate leadership role.

Madam Kai, said this became necessary for the emancipation of women, end the vicious circle of poverty and set women on the course of self fulfilment and realization.

The head of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, Loretta- Pope-kai, stated this at the special launch of the women political empowerment and leadership clinic program organized by Sister AID- Liberia with support from United Nations Women in Liberia UN women Liberia, with funding Canada embassy, among others.

She charged women of Liberia to embrace self-development, self-improvement and brace up for the challenges in leadership role, within their homes and communities, among others.

Madam Kai, commended Government of Liberia for not only providing leadership in the implementation of policies and programmes that tackle Gender-Based violence but for also providing space that allows women to contribute.

She urged the government of Liberia to continue to promote women in good political empowering and better leadership role, that will enable them to contribute to the development of the nation.

Also speaking at the occassion, Director of Procurement at the Ministry of State for Presidential affairs, Snorte Sherman, also charged women to continue to work in love and solidarity to have more women in leadership.

“Women need to be able to stand together, with love for each other, engage the challenge on their own whether they have husband or not, we must be able to take care of ourselves and our businesses, She averred.

Sherman said Women are most qualify for leadership role, like their male counterparts, and should not be overlooked, She urged women to step up and make their case, likewise the male do, noting that whatever men do, women are more capable of doing.

Meanwhile, Sister AID Liberia (SALI) with support of UN Women Liberia  and funding from the Embassy of Canada to Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia  Canadian Government launched a Women Political Empowerment and Leadership CLINIC at SALI’s new headquarters on Friday, October 15, 2021.  

The CLINIC is a major component of the SALI/UN WOMEN-Supported Women Political Empowerment and Leadership Project.

According to organizer lineup of Services at the LEADERSHIP CLINIC are: Capacity Building of women candidates, aspirants, campaign teams, and emerging women leaders and politicians; also on the card is technical Assistance led by eight (8) technical Experts who will provide hands-on support to candidates  and campaign teams in areas covering: Constituency Research and Strategy, Partnership and Alliance Building, and Campaign  Operations and Management; and C) fostering of partnership, alliances, and engagements with political parties and community structures to promote the leadership and participation of women in higher political party structures as well as election of women candidates while addressing underlying causes to rigid traditional norms and social mores against women politicians and leaders.

Proceeding to the launch of the event was an intensive three-day training covering core competence tracks in women political empowerment and leadership, including campaign research, strategy-making, operational planning, budgeting, fundraising, campaign operations and management, just to name some. 

Hon. Meima Gorlon Carr Gaye, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Gender launched the CLINIC and its attending product: publicity and resource website/website; she challenge women to be steadfast in their political ambition.
