Liberia names 22-man squad Ahead of World 2nd leg World Cup qualifier with Nigeria

The Lone Star will be were away first the next during the September FIFA international World Cup qualifying rounds to play the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Central African Republic CAR.

Liberia senior National football coach   Peter Butler has recalled Spanish-born goalkeeper Boison Wynney de Souza of Romanian club FC Someșul Dej, and named three ‘uncapped players’ in his final World Cup qualifiers matches against Nigeria and Central African Republic for next week’s events.

Real Balompédica Linense, loanees Ashley Williams and Jeremy Saygbe are both opted out of the West African squad on technical reason.

Up next for Liberia is Nigeria  at Stade de Tanger, and later another home tie against Central African Republic (C.A.R.) The game against Nigeria is a perfect chance for Liberia to revenge themselves against the Super Eagle after falling in the first leg 2-0 at the  Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

A win against the eagles will solidify a chance, while another win for Butler’s men against CAR, will keep the Red, White and Blue outfit dreams of advancing to Qatar 2022 World Cup finals mathematically alive.

Charlotte Independence Spanish-born- Liberian right-back Joel Johnson Alajarín, who has already netted three goals this season and in sparkling form misses out for the fourth consecutive time under Butler, also there’s no room for former Captain Sam Johnson of Swedish Club Mjallby.

Nac Breda centre-forward Ayouba Kosiah, is unavailable, while Daniel Paye  is missing out, after recently signing for Danish First Division club Jammerbugt.

Hatayspor frontman, Mohammed Kamara, Patrick Weah of Sacramento Republic are both not called up, by Coach Butler, while Brisbane Roar Striker Cyrus Dehmie turn down the Lonestar invitation, with the Ivorian-born -Liberian teenager of Australian decent mostly focusing on the Socceroos.

In their absence, Peter Butler has called up the untested trio of Dutch-born Liberian Mark Pabai of PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands, Ghanaian-born Jamal Arago of Sabail FK in Azerbaijanis and Watanga goalkeeper Derrick Julu.

Pabai has finally accepted to play for Liberia, having turn down the Lone Star invitation for the back to back games against Cape Verde in October.

The 21-year-old, who is regular fullback for Zwolle since his move from Jong Utrecht is poison this time to feature for the country of his origin.

He was born in Monrovia and move to the Netherlands with his family at the age of six years old. 

For Arago, the Ghanaian-Liberian featured for the Black Satellites during the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Youth Championship but didn’t make the final squad due to injury.

The 28-year-old, who also has two under-20 friendly caps for the Black Star, qualifies to play for Liberia through his grandmother.  

At the same time, there’s a recall for Sylvanus Namely for Finnish Club Ilves Pallo, striker Peters Wilson of Olympiakos Nicosia and Justin Paul Salmon of Degerfors IF.

Liberia sits at the button of their 2022 World Cup qualifying group B, six points behind leaders Nigeria, one adrive third place Central African Republic and four beneath second place Cape Verde island after a back to back defeats against the blue sharks in last October.

The Country of George Manneh Weah, former Africa icon and 1995 Ballon d’Or winner now president of the state will face three-time Africa’s champions Nigeria on November 13, and host minnows Central African Republic on November 16.
