One reported dead, several wounded over land dispute in Lower Nimba

At least one person is reported dead and several people made homeless following a shooting incident in Nimba County Electoral District Six (6), Tappita District Lower Nimba county over a land conflict between two villages.

The According to our regional correspondent in Nimba the fighting broke out at about 5pm local time on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in Bath village in Kparblee District between the people of Gboutuo village in Gblor Clan where there has been a long-standing land dispute between the two Communities.

The two wounded men from Gboutuo village have been taken to Gblor Diala clinic for medical treatment.

Our correspondent said so far, there has been no state security presence after several SOS calls by citizens hailing from the district.

A resident from area Cheston Dennis told Liberia Public Radio via telephone if nothing is done to arrest the situation more damages could be done.

He also confirms the death of a young man as a result of the dispute in Gboutuo village.

It remains unclear what is the exact size of the disputed land in questions as several residents have been affected by the fight.

The Liberia Land Authority says it will early February 2022 hold a national dialogue on land crisis aimed at finding amicable solution  to the many land conflicts in the country. Several counties have in recent time been engaged in land dispute due to lack of proper demarcation.
