Dougee Town, Grand Gedeh County – November 11,2021-Women Empowerment Forum Liberia (WOMEN-LIBERIA) with support from the Women NGO Secretarial of Liberia (WONGOSOL) in collaboration with Organization of Women and Children Funded by UN WOMEN in partnership with the Canadian government has ended a one-day community consultative engagement meeting for women of Duogee Town, town Grand Gedeh County.

Though sadly, Grand Gedeh Electoral District One did not put up any female candidate like Nimba and Bomi Counties , but females in Duogee town expressed their frustration over the manner and form they have been left behind in many leadership roles.

During the day-long consultative engagement forum, the CEO of Women Empowerment Forum Liberia Mrs. Laura Bee Kiekpo encouraged women to first of all to be tolerant and focus collectively in all their advocacy for their voices to be heard in community engagements.

A little over thirty participants attended and they promised to always go for community meetings as way of putting their points through.

Gender barrier in Liberia which Grand Gedeh County is of no exception continues to create unequal power relationships something which has since claimed global attention.

Minimizing the gender gap between female and male remains a huge challenge to say but with community awareness some progress has been made with the evolvement of Women NGO Secretarial of Liberia (WONGOSOL) with funding to Local and Communities Base Organizations (CBOs)/NGOs.

As 2023 general presidential and legislative elections are nearing, these fora will help women to make the right decisions for their voices to be heard.

Participants look on as the forum goes on in Dougee Town

As it stands, there are 11 female law makers with 92 male law makers which in itself is a huge gender imbalance.

“This alone is an unequal power relationships”, one participant said.

The one day  community consultative forum was under the theme: “Liberia will be better when women and men lead together”.
